§ 8-1. Arson reward.

  • (a)

    The city council may offer a reward payable to the persons who shall be responsible for the arrest or conviction of any person committing in the city the crime of arson as the same is now defined by the penal code of the state.

    (b)

    Whenever the mayor shall be informed that any fire occurring in the city was of an incendiary origin, he shall call for a report on the same by the city fire marshal, and if the marshal shall report that such fire was caused by the commission of the crime of arson, the mayor is hereby authorized to offer a reward of up to five hundred dollars ($500.00) and a higher reward may be offered upon the consent of the city council. Upon information being given by any person who shall cause the arrest or conviction of such person guilty of a specific crime of arson for which the reward shall be offered and after the final conviction of such person, the person or persons giving such information shall be entitled to receive the reward or a portion of the reward.
