§ 24-16. Hurst Volunteer Rescue Unit, Inc.

  • (a)

    The organization known as the Hurst Volunteer Rescue Unit, Inc., is recognized as a public service corporation, and certain vehicles of such organization are authorized to make emergency runs within the city; subject, however, to the conditions enumerated below:

    (1)

    Only such vehicles of the Hurst Volunteer Rescue Unit, Inc., as are owned by the corporation and are actually equipped for emergency use and are equipped with state exempt licenses are to be allowed to make emergency runs within the city. Such vehicles as may be owned by members of the Hurst Volunteer Rescue Unit, Inc., whether or not equipped as emergency vehicles, are not to be recognized as authorized emergency vehicles under this section. A complete and up-to-date list of all such emergency vehicles is to be furnished and filed with the police department annually on or before January 1.

    (2)

    Upon receipt by the Hurst Volunteer Rescue Unit, Inc., of a request for an emergency run, the chief or one of the officers of such organization, prior to making such emergency run, shall telephone, radio or otherwise contact the police dispatcher of the city to give him the following information:

    a.

    The person or organization requesting that the call be made;

    b.

    The nature of the disaster or call;

    c.

    The destination thereof;

    d.

    The number of Hurst Volunteer Rescue Unit vehicles to be involved in making the call; and

    e.

    The probable route to be followed.

    (b)

    No provision of this section shall confer greater privileges on the Hurst Volunteer Rescue Unit, Inc., in making emergency calls than those granted to vehicles of the police department, fire department or other emergency equipment.
